Mono is a BMX zine capturing the culture and lifestyle of street riders in the UK and the launch issue documents Liverpool's street riders. Our brief was to create a visual narrative from a catalogue of stunning photography and colourful interview articles as well as delivering a minimalistic inspired brand identity closely mirroring Mono's values.
Street riding and fashion share a lot of similarities and photographing a double-peg, a bunny-hop or any other insane BMX trick is no different to photographing a couture collection. We based the design and the zine's overall tone on the functional and artistic success of the fashion industries super-stylised look-books. By treating the content as individual pieces of interest as well as part of a larger collection, it allowed us to create a beautiful and seamless flow from one image to the next.
